I know it’s Tuesday and not my usual posting day, but I have to get some thoughts down on this Rory McIlroy situation.
The bottom line is that it is terrible. I hate to see players in any sport get hurt. Rory is not my favorite player and I have never been able to put a finger on why, but this sucks. This puts a damper on the Open Championship. It will be a negative to not have the defending champion absent from the event.
I have seen some say that it could be a 10 day recovery period. I think Rory should absolutely not play the Open at St. Andrews. The injury needs the proper time to recover and to avoid the risk of re-injury. I can say confidently from watching the instances of Tiger’s reoccurring injuries, that I do not want to see the same with Rory.
Another issue that has been raised is that he shouldn’t have been playing soccer. These guys can’t live a life that only involves golf. I would have probably liked for him to play after the majors, but that didn’t happen.
Overall, hopefully Rory can have a speedy recovery and get back for the PGA Championship. But don’t rush it! The Open Championship will still be thrilling and I will still be watching. Golf is bigger than one player. See you next week.

Most of us appear to be on the same page. It was an accident and is part of every athletes life. I hope he makes a speedy recovery as well!
