2016 Newsletter

Hi everyone and welcome to my 2016 Newsletter!!!!

2016 was a great year for me on the Top 100 quest.  I am continually amazed at the generosity of the golf community.  I met some great people this past year and hope to play with them again in 2017.  I also hope to meet more golfers in the coming year.  I hope your 2016 was a great one full of golf and good times!

I’m adding a new piece to this 2016 newsletter.  I will go over the superlative courses for 2016.

Best Course Played:

Merion Golf Club (East) – This was a phenomenal experience from start to finish.  It was also a master class in architecture.  The greens and bunkering were so good.  I can’t imagine getting to play here all the time.

Most Fun Course Played:

Tie between Boston Golf Club and California Golf Club of San Francisco – These two tracks were very different, but they shared a common trait in that they were both super enjoyable to play.  Boston GC has some incredible holes and fabulous greens.  Cal Club had some of the best bunkering and strategic holes I have ever seen.

Hidden Gem:

Sweetens Cove Golf Club – I’m not sure it qualifies because more people are beginning to hear about it, but if you haven’t, do some research and visit.  The course is a perfect example of fun golf and what can be done on a sub-par site.  The greens are very imaginative and fun.  Make your way down to Chattanooga to play what may be the best nine-hole course in the country.

I could do many more superlatives, but you will just have to go through the archives and read the course tours to see some wonderful tracks.

I made great progress on the lists this year and took plenty of wonderful trips. Here’s hoping I add to that list in 2017.

Through 2016 I have completed the following of the four lists:

  • Golf Digest Top 100 – 28/100
  • Golf Digest Top 100 Public – 34/100
  • Golf Magazine Top 100 – 24/100
  • Golf Magazine Top 100 Public – 36/100

There are certain areas that have a lot of courses concentrated in a certain area.  If you know private course contacts in the Boston, New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles areas please let me know.  It is through some wonderful generosity that I have played the courses that I have so far.  I love this great game and the people I have met.

If you haven’t already, please bookmark the site (www.tigergolftraveler.com).  I will continue to post weekly on Mondays at a minimum and I hope that you follow me on this journey.  Please stay in touch and have a wonderful 2017!
