Caddie Conversations

I mentioned last week that professional golf doesn’t generate a lot of writing motivation for me.  Of course, by coincidence, I saw something while watching the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational yesterday.

In the 18th fairway, Tyrrell Hatton was discussing the final approach shot of the day with his caddie.  This shot, where the outcome would determine the winner, was filled with danger.

Hatton’s caddie said something along the lines of, “It’s all f’ing feel!”  The audio had just come in and was going in and out after that.

Of course, we got the obligatory apology from the broadcasters.  These mea culpas always make me laugh.  But that is beside the point.

My main fascination is with the player/caddie conversations.  I would love to hear all these interactions going forward.  I don’t really know the FCC rules but I do know I hear swearing on many channels after certain times.  Golf broadcasts need a lot of improvement.  First and foremost that is cutting down on the commercials, but that will never happen.  Getting these talks into the broadcast would provide insight into what players are thinking coming down the stretch.

I am always into hearing these.  We will get duds every now and then but I am willing to hear those in order to get the gems that I am sure occur all the time.  Let me know what you think in the comments.
