All I can say is wow! Tiger Woods won again on the PGA Tour last weekend at The Tour Championship in Atlanta. It is euphoric to be able to type those words.
I was never in the camp that thought Tiger Woods couldn’t win again. In my mind, the only thing that would prevent him from raising a trophy was his physical status. If he couldn’t play, then I would concede him not winning.
But he got back out on tour and the game started to come together. He competed in events early on in the year and there were promising signs. However, there still seemed to be competitive rust. The drive OB at Bay Hill comes to mind.
After two spirited runs at the British Open and PGA Championship, I was all in. As a side note, watching him chase those two tournaments was some of the most thrilling golf I’ve seen in a long time. It’s been said, but Tiger Woods absolutely is the needle in golf.
Once the equipment tweaks to his driver were made and he went low at Aronimink I thought he would get it done in 2019. Lo and behold he only waited a week. A East Lake he played great the first three rounds. He drove it straight and holed putts, not to mention stellar irons that have been around all season. The final round was vintage Tiger. He played steady and let others fold. Sure it would have been interesting if someone made a charge, but this is how it always goes with his wins.
So congratulations Tiger! You got it done at East Lake.
Ryder Cup
I don’t have too much to say here as the event has been thoroughly covered by many outlets. Some of my favorite stuff can be seen at No Laying Up.
I am excited for the event. So much so that I’ll have it streaming while tailgating at Clemson this weekend. I like our chances, but the US will obviously need to play well to end the 25 year winless drought on foreign soil.
Golf courses are more the bread and butter of this site. I’ve only seen Le Golf National on TV for the French Open. As others have stated, it requires precision ball striking. Justin Thomas mentioned on the NLU podcast that he hit only seven drivers when he played the French Open earlier this year.
With that type of track I’m expecting plenty of stingers off the tee. As always, it comes down to who makes the putts. Go USA!
