I found myself at Fort Mill Golf Club to witness someone else’s match. Why you say?
One of the group chats I’m a part of has been staging a match play tournament over the summer. My buddy Luke was playing against Cory, so myself and another friend CJ joined up to keep it all above board.
The match was tight and fun to witness, with Cory coming out ahead. Laughs were shared, smack was talked, and beers were sipped. It was a good day.
In light of all that, I am not doing the normal full course tour for Fort Mill Golf Club. I did, however, take some pictures to give you a feel for the place. The course is a Donald Ross and like all his courses it has had many other hands on it.
Below is a look at the opening tee shot.
This is the second hole that has a pond jutting in front of the green. The water is in play if you push your drive.
I don’t remember which hole this is, but it doglegs left severely.
The twelfth at Fort Mill is a controversial hole. It is tight and you need to move it right to left. That’s no issue for me, so I don’t know why people dislike it. Below is the view of my second shot on the par five.
Luke is getting ready to pound one 60 yards by me here.
Fort Mill is fairly generous with fairway width and allows you to hit driver a lot.
The next two photos are on the tighter side for the course. They also show that the holes move both ways and it is a huge advantage if you can work the ball either way.
I definitely recommend checking out Fort Mill Golf Club if you can. The greens were firm and rolling moderately fast. I’d love to see it in the spring or fall when it isn’t so damn hot! Congrats to Cory for moving on in the match play.
