Much of Pinehurst has gotten a facelift in the last decade plus. Pinehurst #3 is no exception.
The course has been around since 1910, but it got a major renovation a few years ago. Many players now view it as a great warmup for #2 because the severity of the greens at Pinehurst #3 offer no let up.
I got invited by some friends to come up and see Pinehurst #3 and I jumped at the chance. In my days working at the resort, the course was always fun, but it was lacking something.
Like the other courses, the native areas had been removed and wall to wall grass was the norm. That works at some places, but Pinehurst needs sandy areas.
The new and improved Pinehurst #3 gives you all the challenge you could ask for in a course that is less than 5,200 yards.
I mentioned the greens are a challenge. Check out that bunkering as well.
There’s no denying you are in the Sandhills of North Carolina anymore.
Fighting darkness on a course like Pinehurst #3 is always a pleasure.
I can’t say enough good things about Pinehurst #3. It is a perfect addition to courses 2 and 4 as the heavy hitters at the main location.
People will always have their favorites, but this course is phenomenal for a second round of the day or going out for a lowkey round with your buddies. It’s going to challenge you with the greens and you probably won’t shoot your best score, but I dare you not to have fun.
