I am not the average golf fan. I love the game more than most. I created my own golf blog for pete’s sake! I have been playing since I was nine years old, played competitively until I was 20 (still do sometimes), and watch the game on TV a lot! I say all that to say this. I am burnt out on golf’s season.
Now before you quit reading, let me explain myself. I am not tired of golf. I liked this time of the year in the past. Regular tournaments through October and then the start of the silly season with events such as the Skins Game and the like were exactly what I looked forward to. I am not ready for another push to the FedEx Cup. It may just be me, but I like for the season to start with the calendar year. I don’t know all the advertising and financial metrics the Tour uses to justify the new change, but I do know what I like. I like all of these tournaments because they give players a chance to earn a living with many of the guys fighting for their card. Getting your card is what this time of year should be about. Stop trying to compete with the NFL. I am proof that you can like both, I do it every year. I still maintain that there was no need to change the season format. Don’t even get me started on the Web.com finals.
The Tour knows what they are doing I suppose. After all, I will still be watching. In fact, as I am writing this I am watching the first event of the new season. Got me hook, line, and sinker. Happy viewing!!!
