Big Stretch for South Carolina Golf

Professional golf in South Carolina is showing out a bit over the next couple of months.  This past weekend the PGA Tour returned to Harbour Town Golf Links for the RBC Heritage.  It was a welcome sight to see the tournament back in it’s traditional April timeslot.

In May, men’s major championship golf returns to South Carolina with the PGA Championship. The tournament is returning to the 2012 host site The Ocean Course at Kiawah.  Back then, Rory McIlroy triumphed by a wide margin.  Who knows what will happen this time around, but I’m excited to watch as the best male players in the world take on the Dye brute.

These first two events were no surprise.  But with the cancellation of the Canadian Open, Congaree unexpectedly stepped in to host that week’s event.  It’s obviously due t0 the pandemic and the resulting border situation with Canada.  I thank my Canadian friends for sharing the date with us.

I don’t know much about the golf course at Congaree, but the reviews I’ve heard have been stellar.  It sounds like it is some of Fazio’s best work.

Add in the June return of the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Korn Ferry Tour and it’s shaping up to be a fun few months for golf fans in the Palmetto State.
