December 2014 Newsletter

Hi everyone!!!!  Welcome to the December 2014 Newsletter.

I hope that everyone has had a great year!  As some of you may know, I began an epic adventure to play the Top 100 golf courses on four lists.  These are the Top 100 for Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as well as the Top 100 Public from each publication.  Obviously I am crazy since one list was not enough.

So what lead me down this road you ask?  I had been thinking about it since reading some great blogs about similar feats from Golf Tripper and Letters from the Links and others which you can see on my “Other Golf Sites I Like” page.   Anyway, I decided this quest was something that would be a great combination of my passions for golf and travel.  The best way to remember the journey and share it with people was to chronicle it on the web.  If you haven’t already, please bookmark the site (www.tigergolftraveler.com).

I have been lucky enough to play some great courses such as Pinehurst #2 and TPC Sawgrass before I started the quest.  I played competitive golf until I was 19 and played many great courses along the way.  Now that I am way past that part of my golf life, playing the best courses in the country is a great way to continually stoke my passion for the game.  I have been telling everyone I see about the quest.  The great majority of the courses on the lists are private so I will be making many new contacts!  If you want to help with that portion of the quest, please let me know.  As you can see below, I have already made some great progress.  I am continually awed by the connections you can make in this great game.  I am also completely thankful for the generosity people have shown me so far.

I will continue to post weekly on Mondays and I hope that you follow me on this journey.  Please see below for the progress I have made as well as a summary of posts on the site.

Through 2014 I have completed the following of the four lists:

Golf Digest Top 100 – 12/100

Golf Digest Top 100 Public – 19/100

Golf Magazine Top 100 – 10/100

Golf Magazine Top 100 Public – 21/100

I am working on some leads for next year at more courses, but I don’t want to jinx anything before things get nailed down.  If you see a course on one of the lists that you can help with please let me know.

Please stay in touch and have a wonderful 2015!

  1. Love reading your articles. I think the aim of your blog is great. One point, for me, I like to hear about your journey as much as the golf courses. Golf provides so many great opportunities to connect with people that I think it is often overlooked. Regardless, keep your articles coming, I enjoy reading them.

    1. Thanks friend! I am working on incorporating some of the story of how I get to each place in newer posts. I agree with you on the journey. Occasionally I need to protect my hosts from getting called for rounds at the private places, but other than that I am definitely going to incorporate more info on why I am playing somewhere.
